School Visitation Leave
According to Tex. Govt. Code Ann. § 661.206, state employees who are the parents of children in prekindergarden through grade 12 may use up to eight hours of sick leave each fiscal year to attend educational activities of their children. An educational activity is a school-sponsored activity, including a parent-teacher conference, tutoring, a volunteer program, a field trip, a classroom program, a school committee meeting, an academic competition, and an athletic, music, or theater program. However, employers must be provided with reasonable advance notice of an employee’s intention to use sick leave to attend an educational activity.
